HIBAPRESS – Abdellatif Baraka
Only a few days after the national coach Walid Regragui's departure from leading the Moroccan national team, Moroccan football entered an unexpected turning point, with the appointment of Wahbi as the new coach of the "Atlas Lions," before finding himself at the heart of an unprecedented exceptional event.
The Appeals Committee of the Confederation of African Football has decided the file of the 2025 African Cup of Nations final, by declaring Morocco's victory over the Senegalese national team with three goals to nil, after considering them defeated by withdrawal, in accordance with the provisions of Article 84 of the competition law. This decision officially awarded the title to Morocco, but at the same time sparked a wide debate about this previous incident in the history of African football, which the arbitration had to resolve in front of the public. In contrast, Wahbi finds himself in a unique position, a newly appointed coach, and crowned continentally before leading the team in the first expected friendly match at the end of this month, a rapid achievement in terms of numbers, but it puts him in a real test to convince the fans on the field, especially in the post-Regragui stage in which the fans are looking forward to the features of a new technical project and all eyes are on the stadiums of the United States of America, Mexico and Canada in the 2026 World Cup finals.
