The Moroccan Olympic team was beaten by its Ukrainian counterpart (1-2), in the second round of the football competition of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The “Atlas Lions” team managed to secure a thrilling victory over their Argentinian counterparts at the start of the Olympic journey with two goals to one, before the qualification calculations were scattered in the second round.
The Moroccan Olympic team leads the Group 2 standings with 3 points, shared equally with the teams of Ukraine, Iraq and Argentina.
The rules provide that two teams from each group qualify, and the two teams with the highest number of points qualify. In the event of a tie on points, goal difference is used, then direct confrontations, then fair play.
The Moroccan team, led by Tariq Sektiwi, must beat Iraq in the third round, regardless of the result of the match between Ukraine and Argentina.
In the event of a tie, the result of the second match will determine who qualifies for the quarter-finals, while a defeat will officially mean goodbye to the competition.
It is worth noting that the Olympic team will face their Iraqi counterpart next Tuesday in the last round of the group stage.
