Sofiane Rahimi, the star of the Moroccan Olympic football team, was injured during the match lost by the “Cubs of the Atlas” against his Ukrainian counterpart (1-2), for the second round of the football competition of the Olympic Games “Paris 2024”.
Sofiane Rahimi scored from the penalty spot to level Morocco’s score at 1-1 after 64 minutes.
But Ukraine surprised Morocco and scored the second goal of the match in the last minute, despite being down by a numerical disadvantage after Volodymyr Salyuk was sent off in the 63rd minute.
Rahimi left the pitch after the final whistle, walking in an unnatural manner and wearing a bandage on the sole of his foot, as the Al Ain Emirati striker said in response to a question from one of the fans: “We hope for the best.”
According to informed sources, Sufyan Rahimi underwent preliminary examinations after the confrontation, and is expected to undergo a thorough examination on Sunday morning, in order to determine the nature of the injury.
The same sources explain that the medical staff of the Moroccan Olympic team will decide next Sunday whether Rahimi is ready to participate in the match against Iraq, next Tuesday, in the third and final round of the group stage.
Rahimi scored 3 goals at the Paris Olympics, having already scored twice in Morocco’s 2-1 win over Argentina in the first round.
