In a decisive move reflecting the authorities' response to citizen complaints, the Wali of the Souss-Massa region and the governor of the Agadir Ida Outanane prefecture, Said Amazazi, has given instructions to open an urgent administrative investigation into the irregularities of the large taxi sector in the Taghazout area, following accusations of discriminatory practices between citizens and tourists.
This move came after an increase in complaints from users, who condemned some drivers' preference for transporting foreigners over Moroccan citizens, a behavior that sparked a wave of resentment and raised questions about respecting the rules of public utilities and the principle of equal opportunities in benefiting from transportation services.
The preliminary investigations carried out by the competent authorities resulted in the taking of strict disciplinary measures, which consisted of temporarily withdrawing trust licenses from a number of violating drivers, in a clear message confirming that any violations affecting citizens' rights will not go unpunished.
The authorities' intervention was not limited to the punitive aspect, but also included organizational measures aimed at restructuring the sector locally, where it was decided to move the large taxi station from the center of Taghazout to a dedicated and organized space, with the aim of reducing traffic chaos and improving working conditions and the quality of services provided.
These measures fall within a broader vision to rehabilitate the transport sector in the Souss-Massa region, especially in tourist areas that are experiencing rapid dynamism, where the authorities seek to achieve a balance between the requirements of tourist attractiveness and ensuring the dignity of the citizen, which enhances the region's image as a destination that respects the standards of justice and quality of services.
