The Confederation of African Football (CAF) forced the Algerian Football Federation to remove the Algerian flag from the 5 July stadium during the match between USM Alger and Olympique de Safi of Morocco in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup semi-final, due to non-compliance with the organizational conditions related to raising the flags of the concerned countries.
This decision came after the organizing authorities refused to raise the Moroccan flag, which the match observer considered a violation of the regulations in force in CAF competitions, which require displaying the flags of all parties equally inside the stadium. In this situation, the responsible authorities were forced to remove the Algerian flag, in a move aimed at avoiding the stoppage of the match or exposure to potential penalties, and ensuring the completion of the match in accordance with the organizing laws.
