The Iranian army announced that the expected American naval blockade on Monday would be "illegal" and amount to "piracy," threatening that Gulf ports would not be safe if Iranian ports were besieged.
A statement from the Khatam al-Anbiya headquarters, the central operations room of the Iranian forces, read on official television, stated that "the restrictions imposed by criminal America on maritime traffic and passage in international waters are illegal and are an example of piracy." The spokesperson for the "Khatam al-Anbiya" headquarters warned that any threat to Iranian ports would be met with insecurity in Gulf ports, saying: "In the event that the security of the ports of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the waters of the Gulf and the Sea of Oman is endangered, no port in the Gulf or the Sea of Oman will remain safe." Spokesperson Ebrahim Dhu al-Fiqari announced that Tehran intends to present a permanent mechanism to monitor the movement of ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
