HIBAPRESS – Mohamed Zariouh
An elderly man in the Dutch city of Utrecht was subjected to a horrific assault, where one or more individuals poured a flammable substance on his body and then set him on fire. The victim, who is 69 years old, has special needs and uses a wheelchair, sustained severe burns in various parts of his body, including his head, arms, and back.
The incident occurred in broad daylight, where the victim was in a residential area near a shopping center. Passersby were shocked by the incident and rushed to rescue the man, attempting to extinguish the flames and provide first aid before he was transported to the hospital in critical condition. The Dutch police later announced that they had managed to arrest a first suspect, aged 37, and a few hours later, another suspect, aged 55, was detained. Preliminary investigations indicate that the crime may be related to a personal dispute or a previous relationship between the perpetrators and the victim. This crime has caused great shock within Dutch society, especially since the victim was from the vulnerable groups. Human rights organizations and humanitarian associations expressed their strong condemnation of this brutal assault and demanded that the authorities take stronger measures to ensure the protection of vulnerable groups in society. It is worth noting that this incident is reminiscent of a similar incident that occurred in the Moroccan city of Al Hoceima months ago, where the Rif artist “Soulayt” was subjected to the same assault, which led to his death after his body was set on fire.
