The International Anti-Doping Agency (ITA) announced on Friday the first case of doping in the context of the Paris Olympic Games.
This is an Iraqi judoka who tested positive for a banned anabolic substance. The sample collected from Sajjad Sehen “came back with positive analyses for the banned substances methandienone and boldenone” which are both on the list of banned substances by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
The sample was collected by the ITA during an out-of-competition test in Paris on Tuesday and the results were transmitted on Thursday by the WADA-accredited laboratory.
The 28-year-old Iraqi was due to compete in the Olympics for the first time, where he was due to compete in the under-81kg category. He has been provisionally suspended until a decision is made on his case.
“The athlete has the right to challenge his provisional suspension before the anti-doping section of the Court of Arbitration for Sport,” the ITA stressed, and to have the sample re-analyzed.
