HIBAPRESS – Mohammed Zariouh
In a new episode of tightening the noose on "death routes," elements of the Royal Gendarmerie in the village of Arkmane, in close coordination with local authorities, succeeded in putting an end to suspicious movements of irregular migrants.
The operation, which was carried out on Monday evening, resulted in the arrest of five people of Sudanese nationality, who were preparing to breach the waters of the Mediterranean in an adventure with uncertain consequences. The available data indicates that the detainees took a complex path that began with crossing the eastern land borders with Algeria, reaching the coasts of the Nador region. This group falls within human flows that are trying to exploit rough routes to reach the other side, taking coastal areas as a "point of support" before the zero hour. According to security sources, these migrants were waiting for a favorable opportunity to sail towards the Jaafariya Islands. This strategic location has recently become a targeted destination by migrants as an initial "transit station," despite the serious risks that surround these trips, which are locally described as "death trips." On the procedural level, the detainees were held under theoretical guard measures, in implementation of the instructions of the competent Public Prosecution in Nador. The search is not limited to the incident of infiltration only, but extends to deciphering the codes of the organized networks that may be involved in facilitating entry and providing logistical support for these cross-border movements. The operation did not stop at the limits of the arrest, but was followed by a wide field mobilization; where the interests of the Royal Gendarmerie in Arkmane continue intensive combing operations along the coastal strip. These movements aim to clear the area of any possible pockets, and to cut off the road in front of any other attempts that may be planned by irregular immigration networks in light of strict security surveillance.
