HIBAPRESS
Trade unions from the Ministries of Equipment, Water, Transport and Logistics have united, announcing the commencement of an escalation program to respond to their social and professional demands.
The union coordination, which includes the Moroccan Labour Union, the National Labour Union in Morocco, and the Democratic Confederation of Labour, revealed that they will hold two national strikes for one day on Tuesday, April 21st and 28th, along with organizing a national demonstration in the capital, Rabat. The unions criticized, in a joint statement, what they described as the "meager outcome" of the social dialogue, denouncing the continued disregard of workers' demands and the "systematic exclusion" compared to other sectors that have benefited from wage increases and new basic systems. They explained that the escalation decision came after exhausting rounds of dialogue without tangible results, considering this an indication of a "lack of genuine will" to resolve long-standing issues. The most prominent demands, according to the same source, include the establishment of a fair basic system that keeps pace with the strategic importance of the two sectors, improving compensation, as well as redressing the category of non-permanent agents who live in precarious professional conditions. The coordination also condemned what it considered "unjustified discrimination" affecting these two vital sectors, warning that the continuation of this situation would undermine confidence in the seriousness of reforms. It is expected that these escalating steps will conclude with the organization of a national demonstration accompanied by two protest stops in front of the headquarters of the two ministries in Rabat on April 28th, 2026, where the union coordination called on all female and male employees to engage intensively, stressing that unity of ranks and field pressure represent the way to enforce a response to the demands.
