HIBAPRESS – Mohamed Zariouh
The "Ait Mayt" community in the Driouch province was shaken after midnight on Sunday by a dangerous security confrontation that resulted in two Royal Gendarmerie officers being injured with varying degrees of severity.
This incident occurred during a field operation launched by the Beni Said Territorial Center elements with the aim of arresting a person wanted in cases related to the trafficking of hard drugs, but the arrest attempt turned into a security pursuit in which bullets were used. According to the available data, the suspect, who was accompanied by two other people, showed fierce resistance using a firearm, firing directly at the security elements in an attempt to secure his escape. This confrontation led to a gendarme being seriously injured as a result of the bullet shrapnel, while his colleague sustained minor injuries, which necessitated their rapid transfer to the Driouch Regional Hospital to receive the necessary treatment. Following this incident, the region witnessed an unprecedented security alert, with additional reinforcements from the Regional Command of the Gendarmerie in Nador arriving to support the field operations. The security teams launched wide-ranging combing campaigns in the vicinity of the incident and in the adjacent residential gatherings, racing against time to track down the perpetrators who fled to an unknown destination under the cover of darkness. In a related context, there is great anticipation in the local circles of what the ongoing investigations will reveal, as field data is being circulated about the identity of the perpetrators and the extensions of their criminal activity in the region.
