HIBAPRESS – Marrakech: Mohamed Daher
The Preliminary Criminal Chamber for Financial Crimes at the Marrakech Court of Appeal, late Friday night, sentenced the municipal counselor from the Authenticity and Modernity Party to three and a half years of effective imprisonment, a fine of 150,000 dirhams, and ordered him to pay court costs and the minimum applicable enforcement. The court also ordered the return of all seized items to their rightful owners according to the law.
The Public Prosecution at the Marrakech Court of Appeal had previously prosecuted the municipal counselor "A.A.", affiliated with the Authenticity and Modernity Party, on charges of felony bribery and abuse of influence. The judicial body issued a final ruling against him after the case was included in the session and all guarantees of a fair trial were provided in the presence of the defense.
Elements of the Regional Judicial Police Unit at the Marrakech Security Directorate had arrested the municipal counselor last February, following a well-planned sting operation in coordination with the complainant. He was apprehended red-handed receiving a sum of 150,000 dirhams as a bribe in exchange for facilitating an administrative procedure for a contractor.
