HIBAPRESS – Abdelatif Barka
A commercial monitoring tour in the city of Mohammedia revealed an incident suspected of being an attempt to mislead consumers. During a patrol to monitor commercial establishments, a committee affiliated with the administrative police spotted a butcher displaying meat under a sign indicating it was "local veal" at a price of 85 dirhams per kilogram.
According to available data, the process of verifying the origin of the meat raised the suspicions of the committee members. A subsequent inspection revealed that the displayed meat was imported from Brazil, contrary to what the sign in the shop suggested.
In light of this suspected violation, a report was filed against the individual concerned, in preparation for its referral to the competent authorities to take the necessary legal measures.
This incident highlights the importance of intensifying inspection campaigns on markets and food outlets, protecting consumers from deceptive commercial practices, whether it concerns the source of goods, advertised prices, or the quality and suitability of products for consumption. It also emphasizes the need to strengthen these patrols and ensure the respect of transparency rules in commercial transactions, which preserves the rights of citizens and fosters trust between traders and customers.
