HIBAPRESS – Rabat
Abdel Rahim Lahid, a leader in the Socialist Union of Popular Forces party and former head of the Socialist bloc in the House of Representatives, has moved from the parliamentary opposition to government responsibility, after taking over the portfolio of Labor and Social Dialogue within the new government formation led by Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri.
Throughout the past years, Lahid has emerged as one of the voices critical of the economic and social performance of the previous government. He directed criticisms towards the management of several files related to employment, rising prices, and the government's commitments to citizens.
In his parliamentary interventions, he also called for the evaluation of public policies based on their tangible impact on citizens and social groups, emphasizing the necessity of improving living conditions and strengthening social justice. He was known for his strong and firm stances towards employers and his relentless defense of the rights of the working class.
In his new position, Lahid will face the test of transitioning from questioning government policies to participating in their formulation and implementation, especially in files related to expanding job opportunities, improving working conditions, and strengthening social protection.
Social dialogue between the government, trade union confederations, and employers' representatives also constitutes one of the most prominent projects before him, in light of the ongoing discussion about wages, purchasing power, and the balance of the relationship between employers and employees.
Lahid's appointment is of particular importance given his opposition background and his past criticisms of economic and social policies, as his new responsibility allows him the opportunity to translate the positions he defended within Parliament into practical measures.
The main challenge before him will remain linked to the extent of the ability to achieve tangible progress in the field of employment, manage disagreements between social partners, and reach agreements that meet the expectations of employees and companies alike.
