The Turkish Public Prosecution has summoned the writers of the famous series "Valley of the Wolves" to provide their testimonies, as a follow-up to the reopening of the investigation into the mysterious death of former intelligence officer Kashif Kuzeyoglu inside "Silivri" prison in 2011.
In September 2016, Raghi Shashmaz, Bahadir Ozdener, and Cuneyt Aysan appeared before the investigative body to provide their information as witnesses, not defendants, in an attempt to decipher the suspicious intersection between a dramatic script and a real-life incident that occupied public opinion.
The spark for the summons stems from the judicial proceedings picking up on a dramatic plotline that raised the suspicions of investigators. The series depicted a character named "Kashif Oglu" who died in the series' plot in a seemingly natural way, before the narrative revealed his liquidation through "air injection" into the vein.
Despite writer Raghi Shashmaz's argument that the character was merely a fictional construct based on readings of open sources and dramatic formulation of general events without connection to the deceased officer, the precision of the details prompted the judiciary to investigate whether the script reflected actual leaks from the crime scene.
This step comes as a correction to an old investigation that was closed in 2012 due to the non-filing of a lawsuit. Judicial authorities have now moved to re-exhume the entire file through strict field and medical procedures, including opening the deceased's grave to collect tissue and biological samples, in parallel with re-examining surveillance camera recordings and the prison's medical records.
Through this collection of documentary and technical evidence, the prosecution seeks to definitively determine whether a malicious hand secretly extended to end Kuzeyoglu's life, far from speculation.
