The National Security and Customs officers at the Tangier Med port managed, this Thursday afternoon, April 23rd, to thwart an attempt of international smuggling of a shipment of psychotropic substances consisting of 19,100 ecstasy pills.
Border control operations carried out by the police and customs officers on a utility vehicle bearing Moroccan license plates, immediately after its arrival on a ferry from a European port, resulted in the seizure of this shipment of psychotropic substances hidden inside ten boxes of food products. The driver of this car, a 55-year-old Moroccan citizen, was also arrested and subjected to a judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecution, to reveal all the circumstances and details of this case, as well as to determine all the potential extensions of this criminal activity locally and internationally. This security operation comes in the context of the intensive efforts made by the various security services to combat the international smuggling of drugs and psychotropic substances, as well as various forms of transnational crime.
