The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health announced on Sunday evening, April 26, a new increase in the number of casualties due to Israeli attacks on Lebanon since March 2, amid the continued military escalation in the south of the country despite the announced ceasefire agreements.
The Health Emergency Operations Center of the Ministry reported that the total human losses reached 2,509 deaths and 7,755 injuries, a figure that reflects the extent of the field escalation and its ongoing humanitarian repercussions on the various affected areas. Areas in southern Lebanon witnessed new field developments today, as the outskirts of the town of Shamaa were subjected to artillery shelling, coinciding with the targeting of the towns of Zawtar and Yahmour al-Shaqif, which increased the state of security tension in the region. This escalation comes at a time when the Israeli army continues its military operations in southern Lebanon, despite the truce that came into effect on April 16 for ten days, before it was extended for an additional three weeks. Field data confirms that the situation is still fragile, with the continued sporadic violations of the agreement, which directly reflects on the increase in the number of casualties and the expansion of the area of tension in the border areas. In light of this scene, international calls are increasing to exercise restraint and activate diplomatic paths, with the aim of containing the escalation and preventing the situation from sliding towards further humanitarian and security deterioration in southern Lebanon.
