Donald Trump will chair a crisis meeting on Iran on Monday, April 27, according to American media, as negotiations on a ceasefire and the resumption of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz are faltering.
The American president will meet on Monday with his national security and foreign policy team, according to Barak Ravid, a journalist at the well-informed Axios website, via the X platform. He added that "the meeting will address the current impasse in negotiations with Iran and the possible options for the next stages of the war." ABC quoted American officials "monitoring the preparations" as saying that "the Trump administration is showing increasing confidence in the impact of its naval blockade on Iranian ports, (compared to) increasing skepticism about the ability of talks with current Iranian negotiators to achieve the desired results." In addition, Axios reported that Iran has submitted a new proposal to the United States aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ending the war, with negotiations on the nuclear file to be held at a later date. ABC, quoting one of its sources, confirmed that the conditions put forward by Tehran appear to be "far below the red lines set by the" American administration. Attempts to revive the negotiations, which were hosted by the Pakistani capital at the beginning of April, have so far failed. Russian President Vladimir Putin meets on Monday with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, who continues his diplomatic move aimed at mobilizing support for his country in the face of Washington.
