HIBAPRESS – Abdellatif Baraka
A number of professors at the National School of Applied Sciences in Agadir announced a warning sit-in on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, starting at 9:30 AM, in front of the presidency of Ibn Zohr University, following a series of letters and complaints that, according to them, did not receive any response from the relevant authorities.
This escalation comes in protest against what the professors described as “administrative excess and arbitrariness” that has affected a number of them since the appointment of the acting director at the end of last January, where he proceeded, according to available data, to dismiss pedagogical coordinators for several tracks, including the preparatory years, civil engineering, computer science, and mechanical engineering, without providing clear justifications or recording any professional breach against those concerned.
These measures did not stop at the limits of dismissal, but also included, according to the professors, depriving some of them from teaching in certain tracks, in parallel with the appointment of new coordinators outside the legal regulations in force, which stipulate that the appointment of coordinators is made at the suggestion of the pedagogical teams.
The decision to form limited committees to reformulate and amend the recently adopted tracks also sparked a wave of widespread resentment, especially since these tracks have only been adopted for eight months. The professors considered that these committees excluded competencies that have accumulated more than 24 years of experience in teaching and mentoring, in exchange for assigning their tasks to trainee professors whose employment period did not exceed a few months, in a paradox described by the protesters as "incomprehensible".
These developments, according to those affected, raise serious questions about the motives for changing the pedagogical content, especially with regard to the two-year preparatory track, which was prepared within the framework of national coordination aimed at unifying the descriptive files between the various national schools of applied sciences in Morocco.
In this context, the professors believe that these changes may be an attempt to exclude some names from the pedagogical teams, pointing out that this is not the first time such problems have been raised, as similar incidents were previously recorded in 2021, when the current director held the same position and was the subject of a complaint filed with the relevant ministry.
The professors confirmed that they submitted an official complaint in which they demanded urgent intervention to stop what they considered "administrative violations" and to restore things to their proper course in accordance with the laws in force, in a way that ensures the stability of the institution and the preservation of the quality of training in it.
This sit-in is expected to be a pivotal point in this file, in light of the rising tension within the institution, and the anticipation of the position of the authorities in charge of these developments.
