The United Arab Emirates called in the UN Security Council for the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and accountability for Iran, affirming its readiness to participate in any collective effort to ensure the strait remains open.
The UAE, through Minister of State Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, demanded the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz "immediately and without conditions," holding Iran fully responsible for obstructing navigation and imposing "economic coercion" on the international community, during a Security Council session on maritime security chaired by Bahrain. The spokesman stressed that Tehran's practices in the Strait, including closure, imposition of illegal fees, threatening ships, and planting mines, constitute a blatant violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817 and international law, warning that allowing Iran to use the Strait as a pressure card would create a "dangerous precedent" that threatens freedom of navigation in vital international waterways. The UAE affirmed its readiness to participate in any collective effort to ensure the strait remains open, noting that more than 90 countries had sent a unified letter demanding that Iran stop its illegal violations and guarantee freedom of transit without restrictions.
