A new direct air route connecting Strasbourg and Marrakech, operated by the low-cost airline easyJet, was launched today, Sunday.
This route will link Strasbourg-Entzheim Airport and Marrakech-Menara Airport with two flights a week, every Thursday and Sunday.
This new route aims to improve air connectivity between the two cities, which until now was mainly done through indirect flights or via other airport platforms. It will also provide a direct alternative for travelers, whether for economic and tourism purposes or for the movement of the community.
In this context, the Consul General of Morocco in Strasbourg, Soumia Bouhamidi, confirmed that this new air route represents a launch towards more cooperation, opportunities and movement between the two countries.
She added, in a statement to the Moroccan News Agency on the occasion of the inauguration of this route, that this air service will contribute to revitalizing economic exchanges, supporting tourism, and strengthening ties between the two sides of the Mediterranean.
She also highlighted the importance of this route for the Moroccan community, which is among the largest in the eastern region of France, noting that this flight "goes beyond being just an air service, as it contributes to bringing distances closer between families and facilitating travel and maintaining human, cultural and emotional ties of great value between Strasbourg and Marrakech."
For his part, the President of Strasbourg International Airport Entzheim, Gilles Tellier, expressed his satisfaction with the success of the inaugural flight, in which "a full occupancy rate was recorded" on the outbound and return journeys, on board an Airbus 319 aircraft with 157 seats.
He explained that the launch of this route is part of the airport's strategy to diversify its activities by attracting the largest possible number of airlines, pointing out that this new connection responds to increasing needs in the field of movement between the two cities, and will greatly facilitate the travel of families, students, businessmen and tourists.
A number of passengers expressed their satisfaction with the launch of this direct route, highlighting what it provides in terms of comfort and time savings, especially after they were previously forced to pass through other airports such as Basel or Baden-Baden, or endure tiring stops.
This step falls within a broader dynamic to develop the air network towards Morocco, in light of Marrakech's confirmation of its position as a prominent tourist destination and an international connection platform.
This route also comes within the plan to expand easyJet's operations in the Moroccan market, which is considered one of the fast-growing markets, where it intends to operate 19 air routes from seven French airports during the year 2026.
This expansion also depends on the opening of a new operational base in Marrakech, which is the company's first presence in Africa, with the aim of supporting increased capacity and launching new routes between Europe and the Kingdom.
