Mustapha Chaoune, the head of the African Union of Transport and Logistics Organizations, revealed details of the incident of burning trucks that were on their way to supply the state of Mali with food, confirming that the initial data indicates that no lives were lost.
Chaoune explained in a statement to HIBAPRESS that the state of Mali is a major transit point towards the Sahara and West African countries, but it is experiencing an unstable security situation, with the growing activity of terrorist groups in some areas, which raises the level of risks facing international transport professionals. He added that the union had previously issued warnings to companies and truck drivers regarding the danger of crossing through these areas, calling for not taking risks and taking the utmost caution, with the necessity of prior coordination and communication with the consular services before making any trip. The speaker pointed out that the available data currently does not allow for a precise determination of the extent of material losses or the number of damaged trucks, at a time when the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is closely following the developments of the incident. In conclusion of his statement, Chaoune reiterated his call to international transport companies to enhance communication with the organized professional bodies and with the consular services, before moving or crossing through Malian lands, in order to avoid any potential risks and ensure the safety of drivers and goods.
