The White House denied that U.S. President Donald Trump had approved a proposal for a temporary truce of 45 days in Iran, which had been put forward by mediating countries in an attempt to contain the ongoing war, stressing that the proposal is still among the options under consideration without a final decision.
American media reported, quoting a senior administration official, that the initiative is only one of several proposals under consideration, noting that the military operation called "Epic Rage" is still ongoing, and that the President will address the latest developments of the file during a press conference expected later today. Axios revealed that mediators from Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey presented a two-stage de-escalation plan, coinciding with a final deadline set by Trump expiring on Tuesday evening, before commencing the implementation of possible strikes targeting infrastructure inside Iran. According to the plan, the first stage includes a temporary ceasefire for 45 days, with the aim of opening a window for negotiations towards a permanent cessation of hostilities with the possibility of extension, while the second stage is devoted to concluding a long-term peace agreement between Washington and Tehran. The report clarified that sensitive files, headed by the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the enriched uranium reserves file, will only be discussed within a comprehensive agreement, and not as a prerequisite for approving the truce. The American President had renewed, in a post on his Truth Social platform, his threat to bomb energy facilities and bridges inside Iran starting next Tuesday, if Tehran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
