The start of the men’s triathlon events at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games was postponed for the third time on Tuesday due to concerns over the water quality of the Seine River, where the competitions are taking place.
The continuing high level of pollution in the Seine, which hosts the sport, has led to the cancellation of training sessions for swimmers taking part in the Olympic Games over the last two days and the start of official competitions.
Tournament organizers have decided to postpone the men’s race, which was scheduled to start at 8 a.m. local time on Tuesday morning, until Wednesday.
The race has also been rescheduled to take place on Wednesday at quarter to eleven in the morning local time, after the women’s race, which is scheduled to take place at eight in the morning.
A joint statement from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games Organizing Committee and the International Triathlon Union said the cause of the excessive pollution was the heavy rains that hit the French capital last Friday and Saturday. According to their statement.
The press release states: “Paris 2024 and the International Triathlon Union confirm that their priority is the health of the athletes. Tests carried out in the Seine revealed water quality levels that did not offer sufficient guarantees to allow the competitions to take place.
He continued: “Unfortunately, weather events beyond our control may alter water quality and force us to postpone the event for health reasons.”
