The decision of the Moroccan lawyers' team to withdraw from the Mundiavocat World Cup of Lawyers in Spain has sparked widespread controversy within legal and sports circles, after the players refused to play a match that would have brought them together with an Israeli team in the round of 16.
According to participants, the decision to withdraw came as an expression of solidarity with the Palestinian people and a rejection of what they described as the continuous violations to which Palestinian civilians are subjected in the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian territories. The current edition of the Mundiavocat championship, which is one of the most prominent international sports events for lawyers, is being hosted in the coastal city of Benidorm, belonging to the Alicante region of Spain, with the participation of teams representing professional bodies and associations from several countries around the world.
