Former CAF President Issa Hayatou Passes Away

The former president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Cameroonian Issa Hayatou, died this Thursday, August 8 in Paris, the day before his 78th birthday, report our colleagues at RFI.
“A day of celebration for African football, with Morocco’s bronze medal against Egypt at the Olympic Games, and finally sad news in the wake: the former president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Cameroonian Issa Hayatou, passed away this Thursday, August 8 in Paris, on the eve of his 78th birthday,” we read on the French radio website.
Issa Hayatou led the Confederation of African Football as president from 1998 to 2017. He also assumed the FIFA presidency for a few months in 2015-2016, following the resignation of Sepp Blatter.
