An armed attack near the city of Mersin in southern Turkey on Monday resulted in the death of 4 people and the injury of 8 others, according to local media reports.
According to sources, the suspect, who is still being pursued by the police, started the attack by opening fire inside a restaurant, which led to the death of the owner of the place and one of the workers, in addition to the injury of a number of customers. During his escape from the scene, he continued firing, which caused the death of two other people in the vicinity of the road located about 40 kilometers northeast of Mersin. Media reports also mentioned that one of the victims was a shepherd who was passing near the restaurant at the moment of the attack. The information circulated indicates that the perpetrator of the attack is a 17-year-old young man, while the authorities launched a large-scale search operation for him using helicopters and ambulances in the area. This incident comes months after a similar incident witnessed by Turkey last April, when a 14-year-old boy opened fire inside a school in the east of the country, which resulted in the death of 9 students and a teacher.
