To commemorate the National Day for Raising Awareness of Forest Fire Risks, which falls on May 21st of each year, and in a step aimed at consolidating the awareness dimension among young people, especially students of educational institutions, to preserve natural resources and contribute to reducing the dangers of fires that affect forest areas, the National Agency for Water and Forests decided to organize field visits to most educational institutions.
The model here is from the space of the leading group of schools of Awlad Azzouz in Settat, where a mixed committee belonging to the Regional Directorate of Water and Forests and the Regional Command of Civil Protection in Settat visited, through which it held an open communication meeting with the students of the institution, starting from the life cycle of the tree, passing through its stages of growth and its benefits, and presenting the dangers it is exposed to due to the scourge of fires. This step aims primarily to enhance collective student awareness of the importance of fire prevention and the need to protect the national forest wealth in general and the Settat region in particular, by presenting a presentation that addressed the awareness dimension in its relationship to consolidating environmental education and field awareness of the dangers of fires and ways to avoid them. It is hoped that these targeted awareness activities will introduce the efforts made by all stakeholders, including employees of the Water and Forests Department and civil protection personnel, to preserve forest wealth, which is considered the world's lung through which it breathes, while raising awareness of the dangers of fires that annually consume vast areas of these resources and the repercussions of that on the natural system and biodiversity.
