HIBAPRESS – Casablanca
Despite being among the cheapest breeds within livestock markets, the "Merino" breed still records limited demand from a number of Moroccans, who continue to prefer the well-known local breeds as Eid al-Adha approaches.
Professionals attribute this disinterest to the Moroccan consumer's attachment to inherited consumption habits, where many prefer to purchase breeds they have been accustomed to for years, such as "Sardi" and "Tamhadit", considering the trust they have in terms of meat quality and the external appearance of the sacrificial animal.
Followers also see that the factor of consumer culture plays an important role in directing citizens' choices, as the purchase decision is not only related to price, but extends to other details that include shape, size, and habits associated with Eid al-Adha.
In light of the continued rise in prices of some other breeds, professionals are betting on the possibility of an increase in demand for "Merino" during the last days before Eid, especially from families looking for less expensive options that suit their financial capabilities.
