An Israeli political source said on Sunday that the United States is informing Israel about the negotiations on the memorandum of understanding regarding Iran and attempts to reach a final agreement on the disputed points.
The source added to Israeli Channel 12 that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stressed during his conversation with US President Donald Trump that "Israel will maintain freedom of action against threats in all arenas, including Lebanon, and that President Trump renewed his support for this principle." He continued: "Trump made it clear that he would adhere to his steadfast demand to dismantle the Iranian nuclear program and remove all enriched uranium from Iranian territory, stressing that he would not sign any final agreement without achieving these two conditions." The source indicated that "the Prime Minister renewed his appreciation to Trump for his long and exceptional commitment to Israel's security." These latest developments come amid statements by Trump and reports indicating that the United States and Iran are on the verge of reaching an agreement on a memorandum of understanding to end the war. US and Iranian officials estimated that the final decision on the draft memorandum would be made within 48 hours. Press reports indicated that Israel is in a state of concern after Trump's statements and press reports indicating that the United States and Iran are close to reaching an agreement that ends the war. According to Israeli Channel 13, Netanyahu is holding a high-level security meeting on Sunday evening against the backdrop of the progress made in the negotiations between the United States and Iran. An Israeli source told the channel that "this matter is very worrying for all parties" in Israel. At the same time, the Israeli army is closely monitoring reports related to the memorandum of understanding to be signed, and "is concerned about several key items in the draft agreement, especially the failure to include a halt to the enrichment of Iranian uranium, and not preventing Tehran from continuing to develop ballistic missiles." In a related context, an Israeli official said that the framework of the agreement "shows Tehran that it is able to use the Strait of Hormuz as a weapon, in a way that is no less lethal than a nuclear weapon."
