US President Donald Trump affirmed today, Friday, that he is preparing to make a "final decision" regarding a possible agreement with Iran.
In a post on "Truth Social," Trump announced that the naval blockade on Iran would be lifted now, writing, "Ships stuck in the Strait due to the incredible and unprecedented naval blockade that we will now lift can begin the 'Homecoming!' process." In return, according to Trump's post, Iran must immediately open the Strait of Hormuz, without transit fees, to unrestricted maritime traffic in both directions, while working to remove all water mines if any, as he said, after removing many of them by detonating, using advanced American naval mine sweepers. As for nuclear matters, Trump wrote: "Iran must agree not to possess a nuclear weapon or a nuclear bomb… The enriched material, sometimes referred to as 'nuclear dust,' buried deep in the ground above nearly collapsed mountains, as a result of the powerful B-2 bomber attack we launched 11 months ago, will be extracted by the United States (which it was agreed is the only country, along with China, that has the mechanical ability to do so), in close coordination with the Islamic Republic of Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency, and destroyed." Regarding frozen funds, Trump affirmed in his post that "no money will be exchanged until further notice, as other less important terms have been agreed upon. I will now meet in the Situation Room to make the final decision." For his part, a US official confirmed to Axios that the United States has verbal commitments from the Iranians regarding nuclear materials, noting that the agreement with Iran will include a ceasefire in Lebanon. Earlier, senior Iranian negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stressed that Iran does not trust guarantees or words and that actions alone are the measure. He noted that Tehran will not take any action before the other party initiates the move.
