The Commonwealth of Dominica, before the UN's Committee of 24, praised the growing international momentum supporting the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of Morocco over its Sahara.
The Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Dominica to the United Nations, Philbert Aaron, affirmed during the regional conference of the UN's Committee of 24, recently held in Managua, Nicaragua, that this momentum is embodied in the opening of consulates general in both Laayoune and Dakhla, as well as the expansion of consular, political, and economic activities of a number of countries in the southern provinces of the Kingdom. He also praised the historic adoption of Security Council Resolution 2797 in 2025, considering that it added new momentum to the political process based exclusively on the autonomy initiative under Moroccan sovereignty. The diplomat highlighted, in particular, the discussions that brought together Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania, and the "Polisario," which were organized in both Washington and Madrid, based on the Moroccan proposal for autonomy. He also expressed his country's support for the efforts of the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General to the Moroccan Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, and for the efforts of the United States aimed at facilitating this process, calling on all parties to seize this "historic opportunity" to reach a final political solution to this regional conflict that has been ongoing for half a century. Dominica, on the other hand, reiterated the importance of respecting the ceasefire, praising Morocco's continuous commitment to stability, as well as its full cooperation with the MINURSO mission. In conclusion, the Dominican ambassador highlighted the developmental and socio-economic dynamics witnessed by the southern provinces of the Kingdom, thanks to the new development model launched by Morocco in 2015.
