The editorial line adopted by the Tunisian "Al-Janoubiya" channel in recent times towards Morocco has sparked a wide wave of controversy, after it dedicated a number of its programs and episodes to attacking the Kingdom and directing repeated accusations against it in various issues, which was met with negative reactions from many Tunisian followers.
Despite the intensity of the approach adopted by some programs, what was noticeable in the scene was the nature of the interaction on the channel's platforms and official pages, where Tunisian comments criticizing this trend prevailed, considering that the channel had deviated from its media role towards adopting a discourse that directly targets Morocco and fuels a state of tension between the peoples of the region. In this regard, a number of commentators expressed their rejection of dragging Moroccan-Tunisian relations into media and political debates, stressing that the two peoples are united by deep historical and cultural ties that are greater than being affected by circumstantial media discourses. Others also questioned the reasons for this sudden shift in the channel's treatment of Moroccan affairs, especially in light of the repetition of the same topics and the dedication of large spaces to attacking the Kingdom. Amidst this controversy, identical sources spoke of a possible link between the financial crisis experienced by the media institution and the change that occurred in its editorial content, amid allegations that it had received external financial support that contributed to rearranging its media priorities.
