The Oujda Ecological Park, located at the northern entrance to the city of Saidia, is considered one of the most important environmental and recreational spaces in the city. It combines a garden, a forest and a lake and is the green lung of the city. the capital of the East, as it seeks to reduce the high temperature in the urban area and provide fresh air.
One of its most important environmental features is that it relies on an irrigation system with treated wastewater from the treatment plant, which helps to preserve the environment and rationalize water consumption. The park also has a drip and sprinkler irrigation system and a special lighting system that relies on non-traditional energy sources, which reduces the consumption of electrical energy.
Since its creation in 2016, the park has become an outlet for residents, especially during the summer season when temperatures rise. The park also offers recreational areas for children and a road safety awareness area. It is a favorite destination for nature lovers and tree and plant enthusiasts, which strengthens the city’s tourist appeal.
The park covers an area of ​​25 hectares and includes 35,000 trees of different varieties adapted to the region’s climate, which contributes to achieving environmental diversity that meets the needs of the green city. The park was created in partnership between the Ministry of the Interior, the National Agency for Water and Forests, the Eastern Council, the Prefectural Council of Oujda-Angad, the Village Community of Angad and the Eastern Development Agency.
The park also includes recreational green spaces covering 6 hectares of green grass and ornamental plants, in addition to wooden buildings including cafes, restaurants and administrative facilities, which adds an environmental and aesthetic character to the place. The park also includes recreational and sports facilities, sports tracks, walking paths, artificial waterfalls, streams and fountains, in addition to an educational area reserved for children.
The park opens its doors to students and researchers, hosts cultural, scientific and sporting activities, such as the “Book Tree” initiative or the Science Festival, and organizes field visits for students and environmental associations.
