Hibapress / Radio-Canada
President Joe Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris, who is seeking to succeed him, expressed alarm Wednesday about the threat that their rival Donald Trump would pose to American democracy, regardless of the outcome of the presidential election in November.
If Trump loses, I’m not sure at all. that a peaceful transition of power will take place, the Democratic leader responded to a question on CBS television on the subject.
The interview, an excerpt of which was published Wednesday and will be broadcast in full Sunday, is the first by the 81-year-old president since he gave up his bid for a second term on July 21.
Donald Trump, a former Republican president, has never conceded his 2020 defeat, has faced two impeachments, two indictments for attempting to overturn the results of that election, one for his role in the January 6, 2021, assault on the Capitol, and has been criminally convicted of hush payments during his victorious 2016 campaign.
While Mr Biden fears violence if Mr Trump loses on November 5, his vice-president and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris has warned against a victory for the billionaire.
