Fouzi Lekjaa, the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Economy and Finance in charge of the Budget, said that exempting sports companies from corporate tax for five consecutive fiscal years aims to improve the governance of sports clubs and transform them into economically and accountably clear companies. Lekjaa explained that this step accompanies sports associations to enable them to transition to an organized institutional model, which allows for close monitoring by the tax authorities.
The Minister pointed out, during the discussion of the 2026 Finance Bill, that many clubs have not yet implemented the legal obligation to establish companies to manage their activities, leaving an institutional void. He added that the transitional phase aims to provide financial transparency and ensure the ability of clubs to effectively manage their resources, after the state began in 2014 to develop accounting disclosure models for these clubs. Lekjaa affirmed that this tax exemption encourages national and foreign investments, helps develop the professional league, and solves player dues issues, as well as enhances Morocco's ability to organize major events such as the 2030 World Cup. The Minister considered that the transition to sports companies is a fundamental entry point to raise the level of professionalism, attract investments, and promote economic growth in the sector.
