HIBAPRESS – Mohamed Zerriouh
The farmers of the Sabra plain have sounded the alarm after organizing a large protest in front of the Agricultural Office in the division of the city of Zayou, Nador province. They are demanding the immediate release of a new irrigation cycle to save what remains of their agricultural crops threatened by drought and spoilage.
This protest comes at a highly sensitive time, at the beginning of September, which is a crucial stage in the agricultural cycle for a number of crops that currently lack the minimum amount of water necessary for them to complete their growth and maintain their productive continuity.
The protesters raised slogans calling on the responsible authorities and concerned government sectors to intervene urgently to resolve the irrigation crisis. They affirmed that the situation on the ground has reached critical levels that cannot tolerate procrastination or justifications for delays that threaten the entire season.
Professionals are cautiously awaiting the results of ongoing communications and efforts with the competent administration, looking forward to a practical response that translates into reality through the scheduling of emergency irrigation sessions that will restore stability to the region.
The farmers concluded by issuing stern warnings, including resorting to more escalated forms of protest if official disregard continues. They emphasized that securing irrigation water is a fundamental right and a red line to ensure the livelihood of their families and the sustainability of agricultural activity in the plain.
