HIBAPRESS – Rabat
The family of a Moroccan craftsman is experiencing a state of anxiety following the arrest of their son by security services in the Algerian city of Oran, in connection with a drug trafficking case.
According to the testimony of a relative of the craftsman, the individual in question was in Algeria to practice his trade in plastering and painting, where he was tasked with carrying out work inside a villa belonging to an Algerian national.
According to the same account, Oran security services arrested the villa owner on suspicion of involvement in a drug trafficking case, before his phone was searched. The phone contained the contact number of the Moroccan craftsman, with whom he was frequently communicating due to the nature of his work within the villa.
The family adds that the craftsman's number was registered on the villa owner's phone under the name "The Moroccan," referring to his nationality. Then, according to the family's account, he was lured, arrested, and subjected to an investigation on suspicion of being linked to a drug trafficking network.
The family asserts that their son has no connection to drug trafficking or any criminal activity, and that his communication with the villa owner was solely related to the professional work he was performing inside the house.
The family of the Moroccan craftsman has expressed their concerns about his fate, urging the relevant Moroccan authorities to intervene urgently to follow up on the case, verify the truth of the accusations against him, and work to ensure his legal rights and uncover the circumstances of his arrest.
The family also implores the competent authorities to act through available diplomatic and legal channels to ascertain the truth of the case and ensure the craftsman is not held responsible for actions unrelated to him, as confirmed by his family.
