Iran announced on Sunday the killing of the commander of the "Revolutionary Guard", Mohammad Bakpour, and the advisor to the Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Shamkhani. Iranian television later reported the killing of the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, Abd al-Rahim Mousavi, in air strikes that targeted the country.
The television mentioned the killing of Mousavi alongside the Minister of Defense, Aziz Naserzadeh, the commander of the "Revolutionary Guard", Mohammad Babkour, and the advisor to Khamenei, Ali Shamkhani "during a meeting of the Defense Council", noting that new names will be announced later.
The "Mizan Online" website, affiliated with the judiciary, had reported the killing of Bakpour, who assumed command of the "Revolutionary Guard" in June last year during the 12-day war, and Shamkhani, who was one of the senior security officials in Iran, and said that they fell "martyrs" on Saturday, in the Israeli-American strikes on Tehran.
US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that the United States would strike Iran "with unprecedented force" if it responded to the American and Israeli strikes that resulted in the killing of Khamenei.
Tehran had responded to the attacks by launching missiles towards Israel and Arab countries hosting American bases, which it considered "legitimate targets".
