HIBAPRESS – Tifelt
The "Qrai'at" waste dump has returned to prominence in the city of Tifelt, as smoke emanating from it blankets the city's atmosphere amidst growing discontent among residents. They find themselves once again facing a recurring scene while the radical solution to this issue remains postponed.
Children, the elderly, asthma patients, and individuals suffering from respiratory problems are among the most affected by this situation, while the residents of Tifelt question: "For how long will the 'Qrai'at' dump remain an open nightmare for the city?"
Notably, this issue is not new. The head of the Tifelt commune and MP for the Tifelt-Rommani electoral district, Abdel Samad Archan, had previously spoken about the imminent finding of a radical solution for the dump. However, the persistence of the problem brings past promises to the forefront, raising a simple question: "Where has the discussed solution reached?"
The irony is that this situation coincides with the approaching legislative elections, where promises and programs return to the forefront of political discourse, while the resident of Tifelt awaits solutions to a problem that touches their daily life, health, and environment.
In parallel with the suffering of the residents, the dump also raises another issue related to the communal land on which it is located, along with the accompanying demands of rights holders. This makes "Qrai'at" a matter that transcends mere waste management to become an environmental, social, and rights-based issue that requires clear and final treatment.
