The Spanish monarch, King Felipe VI, and Queen Letizia are heading to the occupied cities of Ceuta and Melilla before receiving French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron in Madrid, as part of an upcoming state visit to Spain, according to the newspaper "Libertad Digital".
According to the same source, this visit, if confirmed, would be King Felipe VI's first to the two cities since he ascended the throne and took over the presidency of the state 12 years ago.
The visit comes as part of the commitment announced by the Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, who confirmed on September 3rd, before the Congress of Deputies, that the King would visit Ceuta and Melilla "in the coming weeks".
Sanchez had announced the visit during a parliamentary session dedicated to providing clarifications on the migration crisis that the occupied city of Ceuta witnessed in late June. He explained at the time that the visit would reflect "the full commitment of the state" towards the occupied cities.
