HIBAPRESS
Data published by a Spanish website concerning Mehdi Hejawi, who previously presented himself as being privy to sensitive files linked to Moroccan intelligence agencies, has raised questions about the nature of his movements and relationships during his time in Spain, especially in light of the investigation's details about his contacts and efforts to avoid extradition to Morocco.
According to the investigation published on Monday, September 14, 2026, Hejawi enlisted the help of a network connected to Hugo Armando Carvajal Barrios, known by the nickname "El Pollo," a former Venezuelan military intelligence official, during the summer of 2024, as part of his efforts to secure his status in Spain.
The same source also stated that in October of the same year, Hejawi submitted data described as "exclusive" to the Public Prosecution at the Spanish National Court, in an effort to benefit from legal protection and avoid extradition to Morocco.
Among the files discussed in the investigation are Hejawi's claims of possessing secret information related to the use of the "Pegasus" spyware to spy on the Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and a number of officials. However, according to the published account, this data did not reach the judge in charge of the case after being submitted to him. The investigation also indicated that Hejawi later explored the possibility of heading to Algeria and Canada, before leaving Spanish territory for Turkey, using, according to the same source, a boat and then a private plane, while his whereabouts remain unknown.
