HIBAPRESS
The Association of Moroccan Bar Associations has decided to continue the suspension of professional services until October 7, 2026, with this suspension to be temporarily lifted starting from the same date, following a meeting of its executive office held today, Sunday.
The association explained that the decision comes in the context of the ongoing dispute over a number of provisions related to the legal profession law, emphasizing its adherence to its professional demands and the defense of the profession's independence and self-governance. It considers the suspension of the halt as an opportunity for the new constitutional institutions to examine the imbalances that marred the legislative process of the law.
The date of October 7 was chosen, according to the association, two days before the opening of the new legislative session, which is scheduled to follow the elections that will produce a new political majority and government. The association considers that this phase will allow the upcoming institutions to take responsibility for the file.
The association affirmed that the temporary suspension does not mean a retreat from demands or acceptance of the disputed provisions of the law, indicating that lawyers will continue to mobilize and prepare for what the next phase may require, after more than four months of a comprehensive suspension of professional services.
