HIBAPRESS – Tétouan
The city of Tétouan witnessed, on Wednesday morning, a new escalation in the protests by hundreds of citizens, after they found themselves victims of a perpetual delay in the delivery of their residential apartments in the "Perla Blanca" residential project located on the Azla road.
This situation has sparked a wave of intense anger, pushing the affected parties to organize a large protest rally in front of the construction site and the sales office of the responsible real estate company.
The crisis dates back years, when more than 500 people – including a large number of members of the Moroccan diaspora – paid significant down payments and full amounts in exchange for purchasing residential apartments, based on promises and contractual commitments that set close deadlines for delivery.
However, the shocking reality was the halt of work and near-complete paralysis at the site, which deprived families of the opportunity to settle and turned the dream of homeownership into a continuous nightmare.
In statements to the microphone of "HIBAPRESS" during the Wednesday rally, a number of the affected expressed their strong condemnation of what they described as "systematic procrastination" and "a policy of evasion" pursued by the real estate company.
The protesters confirmed that they are now facing suffocating financial and psychological crises, especially those who are forced to pay bank loan installments along with rent expenses, without any clear prospect for resolving the crisis. The protesters raised prominent slogans demanding the immediate intervention of the regional and judicial authorities, stressing the need to grant them their apartments or to refund their money in full with compensation for damages.
In the face of this growing social tension, the affected parties have demanded that the competent judicial authorities take urgent action to open an in-depth judicial investigation under the supervision of the Public Prosecution, to uncover the circumstances of the project's delay, determine responsibilities, and ascertain the fate of the huge sums of money collected from buyers without fulfilling contractual obligations. The victims' bloc believes that activating this investigation is the essential step to protect their rights, link responsibility to accountability, and limit the abuses witnessed in some residential projects in the region.
