HIBAPRESS – I. Slimali
The Court of Assizes of Appeal in Créteil, in the suburbs of Paris, today, Saturday, drew a new chapter in the case of Moroccan artist Saad Lamjarred, by convicting him and sentencing him to ten years in prison, on charges of raping a young French woman in 2016.
The appellate ruling strengthens the sentence initially issued in 2023, when the Paris Court of Assizes sentenced Lamjarred to six years.
The court also ordered his detention after convicting him of aggravated rape, while the public prosecution had sought a prison sentence of around eight years.
In contrast, the defense of the Moroccan artist announced their intention to appeal the verdict before the Court of Cassation, reiterating their client's insistence on denying the charges and affirming his innocence.
The case dates back to October 2016, when a young French woman, then 20 years old, accused Lamjarred of raping her inside a hotel room in Paris, after they met in a nightclub.
The appeal trial in Créteil took place behind closed doors, after it was previously postponed in June 2025 for additional investigations, before concluding with the issuance of the new verdict.
The course of the case coincided with other judicial developments related to the Moroccan artist, including the conviction of five people last April in a separate case concerning an attempted extortion, where he was asked to pay three million euros in exchange for withdrawing the complaint and the complainant not attending to testify.
Lamjarred also faces another five-year prison sentence issued last May by the Court of Assizes of the Var department in Draguignan, in a case related to the rape of a young woman in 2018 near Saint-Tropez, a sentence which the Moroccan artist has appealed.
Thus, the case of Saad Lamjarred enters a new judicial phase with the announcement of his defense's intention to resort to the Court of Cassation, pending the outcome of future legal steps.
