HIBAPRESS – Tangier
Security services arrested the mayor of Tangier, Mounir Laymouri, on Monday morning, immediately upon his arrival at Tangier Ibn Battuta Airport, coming from the Spanish city of Malaga.
Laymouri's arrest came following a national arrest warrant issued against him, in the context of investigations related to the electoral papers case that caused controversy at the polling station in Al-Quds School in Tangier on election day.
Laymouri is expected to be handed over to the provincial judicial police department in Tangier, where he will undergo investigation and questioning procedures to determine the circumstances of the case and assign responsibilities related to it.
Laymouri had left for Spain before returning to Morocco, at a time when investigations into the incident were ongoing.
His arrest comes in the context of ongoing judicial investigations, pending the outcome of the questioning and investigation procedures, and whether they will result in legal proceedings against the individual concerned.
