Amidst escalating security challenges on the international stage, the internal security and intelligence services of the Kingdom of Morocco continue to solidify their position as a reliable security force and an indispensable strategic partner in laying the foundations for regional and global stability.
This leading role was clearly embodied by the high praise expressed by Dieter Romann, the top official of the German Federal Police, regarding the advanced level of security partnership between his country and Morocco. The high-ranking German official considered the Directorate General of National Security and the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) as a pivotal partner for Germany in bolstering security and stability, commending the high professionalism and readiness of the Moroccan security apparatus in confronting cross-border threats and in developing bilateral cooperation mechanisms between the two countries.
Investment in human capital and expanding the circle of geopolitical stability were among the most important focal points of this distinguished coordination, as senior German officials praised the advanced cooperation program between the Moroccan security sector and the German Federal Police.
This strategic project aims to train and qualify security and police forces in the Sahel countries, serving as a crucial mechanism for police training and educational investment in the human resources of this sensitive region. This unprecedented training program reflects the proactive vision of the Moroccan security apparatus, led by Abdellatif Hammouchi, which is no longer limited to maintaining internal security but has steadily moved towards exporting security and establishing stability in the Kingdom's regional and international environment, making it a true security valve in the African continent.
In addition to this close bilateral cooperation, Morocco is linked to Germany through effective and sustainable multilateral mechanisms, most notably the trilateral cooperation mechanism that brings together the Moroccan, German, and Spanish security agencies. This institutional mechanism convenes periodically to address the major challenges facing the security of the three countries and their shared geopolitical environment.
This coordination framework demonstrated its effectiveness during its last meeting in Morocco in January, which brought together Mr. Abdellatif Hammouchi with his Spanish counterpart, Francisco Pardo Peiquerías, and the German counterpart, Dieter Romann. This high-level meeting witnessed a comprehensive evaluation of cooperation levels on vital security and intelligence issues. The integrated discussions focused on ways to combat terrorism, counter illegal immigration, fight drug trafficking and cybercrime, as well as inter-agency coordination to develop the sports security system.
This trilateral mechanism is of great importance as it provides a permanent strategic platform for consultation and coordination between the police chiefs of the three countries, allowing for discussions on the rapid developments of the security situation in the Sahel and Sahara region, with an analysis of their direct impact on the movement of terrorist organizations and their extensions within the Euro-Mediterranean space.
To ensure these risks are neutralized before they escalate, security agencies in Rabat, Berlin, and Madrid are working to strengthen advanced levels of joint coordination and intensify channels for exchanging operational and technical data, contributing to the creation of a robust security shield capable of ensuring regional and international security and stability in the face of various non-conventional threats.
This recent German testimony to the strategic role of Moroccan security services adds to a continuous series of similar international acknowledgments, coinciding with the high praise and recognition expressed by the Director General of the Swedish National Police less than a week ago.
The Swedish official attributed the significant success in curbing and deterring violent crime mafias in her country to the operational effectiveness of Moroccan security, following successive and frequent arrests made by Moroccan security agencies of many members of these Swedish mafias who were internationally fugitives.
Overall, these successive successes confirm that the Moroccan security approach has become a global model relied upon to contain organized crime, thereby embodying the Kingdom's firm commitment to ensuring the comprehensive security of its reliable partners and allies.
