The National Agency for Water and Forests, in partnership with the Royal Moroccan Federation of Hunting, officially launched the 2026-2027 hunting season today, Friday, October 2, 2026, in Marrakech. The launch took place during a study and awareness day hosted at the Conference Palace under the theme "Safari Hunting in Morocco: Natural Wealth and Sustainable Development."
The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss ways to develop the sector, enhance the management of wild animal resources, and preserve biodiversity, in the presence of officials, professionals, and stakeholders in the safari hunting sector.
The Director-General of the National Agency for Water and Forests, Abdelrahim Humi, explained that the past hunting season attracted over 65,000 Moroccan hunters and approximately 5,000 tourist hunters. The number of leased hunting grounds increased from 1,278 plots during the 2020-2021 season to 1,737 during the 2025-2026 season, and the leased area grew from 3.35 million to about 4.39 million hectares.
Safari hunting is also experiencing growing momentum with the contribution of 146 specialized companies, in addition to the development of new products, including bow hunting.
The event program included presentations on the management of hunting heritage in the Marrakech-Safi region and its safari hunting potential. It also featured the presentation of a book on game species in Morocco and the honoring of several experienced hunters. The activities also included practical workshops and a field visit to a leased hunting ground, before the organizers renewed their commitment to developing responsible and safe hunting practices, enhancing biodiversity protection, valuing natural and rural areas, and supporting local economic and social development.
