The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries renewed, on Friday, September 2, 2026, in New York, their affirmation of "their firm stance supporting the Moroccan Sahara" and the "Moroccan initiative for self-governance to resolve" the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
In a speech delivered on behalf of the GCC countries during a meeting of the Fourth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, Bahrain's representative praised the adoption of Security Council Resolution 2797, which "enshrines the Moroccan initiative for self-governance as a pivotal step towards a realistic, viable, and lasting solution" to this fabricated dispute.
The diplomat stressed before the committee members that the GCC countries also renew their support for the efforts undertaken within the framework of the United Nations to reach a final solution to this dispute "within the framework of respecting the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco and its territorial integrity."
