HIBAPRESS
Nizar Baraka, the Secretary-General of the Istiqlal party, was subjected to a wave of ridicule and criticism on social media platforms, following a statement he made during his party's National Council meeting. He conveyed to party members what he presented as a decision issued by the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) regarding its stance on the National Rally of Independents (RNI) party's participation in the government.
Baraka's statement quickly became rich material for sarcastic comments, as he appeared to be speaking on behalf of another party and announcing a position that had not been officially issued by its leadership. Minutes later, he backtracked, explaining that the information he had received was inaccurate and that no decision had been made in this regard.
A number of social media users seized on this incident to mock the way Baraka announced the news, questioning how a party secretary-general could announce a decision concerning another party before the latter officially issued its stance. Others criticized what they considered haste in conveying sensitive political information, especially as it concerned government formation consultations and alliances between parties.
Thus, Nizar Baraka found himself, instead of simply discussing his party's future and its stance on government consultations, at the heart of a wave of sarcastic comments. A brief statement within the National Council meeting turned into widespread discussion on social media platforms, especially after he was forced to return and correct the information he had announced to his party members.
